Build the register around the exact machine
Start with the machine serial or PIN, model and generation, market configuration, engine and major component identity, current hours and attachments. Store the correct Operation and Maintenance Manual and parts information with the record. A family name such as “CAT 320” or “Komatsu PC200” is not precise enough to set every task, fluid or part.

Risk-based work

Open a separate work order after overheating, contamination, hose failure, warning events, flooding, transport damage, attachment changes, major repair or unexplained performance change. A routine service entry must not close an unresolved incident.

Operators often see change before a scheduled service. Use a consistent form for warnings, leaks, sound, smoke, starting behavior, response, drift, heat indications, undercarriage condition, attachment behavior and visible damage. A description is not a diagnosis. How often should a used excavator be serviced?

Can telematics replace inspections?
No. Telematics can add hours, warnings, location and operating data, but it does not replace physical inspections, fluid evidence, service records or qualified diagnosis.
Should a buyer trust a stamped service book?
